My Friend, Pete Burks

Pete5_3 On Wednesday, November 14, I lost one of my best friends.  Peter Haskell Burks was killed in action when an IED struck his Stryker convoy in Baghdad.  He will be deeply missed by many.

This Thanksgiving, remember the brave soldiers that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. - John Herrington

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, John.

Drew, Jim and Lisa - thank you all for such kind words. This past week our group of friends has been getting together to talk about all of our memories of Pete and last night I just did a free flow of every memory I had of him. God's been faithful in providing comfort to all of us.

Ann, thanks for reaching out. We're all blessed to have known Pete and shared life with him.

I am enjoying Adrian's post as well. And a great blog name too!

John

From all that I have heard, and read about Pete, he was one of a kind.

I am sorry for your loss, his family's loss, and all that he could have been, but for an IED.

Pete's Uncle Mike, is my brother-in-law. I met Pete's extended family during my sister wedding. They are really good people. It is such a loss, but as I look at one of the last photos of him standing in front of his Stryker, I only wish that I had had the opportunity to have known him as you did. You are very, very fortunate to have been able to have called him a friend.

All I can say is to give yourself sometime to heal, but never forget your best friend.

It takes just one person, to make a difference.

Sincerely
Stewart
