I'm curious. If you're a PC user, do you enjoy these spots?

How could you not like these? I haven't met anyone who really thinks Vista is great. Frankly, I don't know too many people who are using it.

I'm a PC user and don't really have strong feelings one way or the other with regards to these spots. Why? Because I don't relate to their ads. Apple isn't speaking to me. Apple is speaking to the regular Joe.

Past my OS, I use hardly any Microsoft software. The three biggest things I do on my computer are: listen to music, browse the 'net, and use office software. To do this, I use Winamp, Opera, and OpenOffice.org. I also scrobble tracks and run processes for Folding@home with a high frequency. Crashes and security threats have been extraordinarily rare in my computing life (since before a GUI internet existed--back on bulletin boards) and greatly decreased when XP was unveiled. I do have to end nonresponding programs, but I also run more processes than the average person (I have 17 tabs open in Opera on my work PC right now--my work PC that doesn't have the specs to match the PC sitting at home that is 6 years old).

Windows machines can be great. My current PC is 2 years old and I paid about $800 for it. You cannot begin to compare an $800 Dell to a $2000 Apple. At the same time, you can't compare my $800 Dell (all OEM parts) to another person's $800 PC--my computer is a Dual-Core intel with 2 GB of RAM. Most computers NOW don't come with 2 GB of RAM standard and mine's 2 years old. If I can get a Mac now, 2 years later, for under a grand and have it come with a dual core cpu and 2GB of RAM I'll consider it. But even then, I haven't heard one solid arguement about why Macs are superior. Just a lot of fanboys between their PS3 posts and their Firefox posts.

I don't have less respect for Mac users--but I certainly don't have any more respect for them either. Unless, of course, their elitism starts to show.

I think I'd be more likely to go Ubuntu before OS X. In fact, I know my wife is considering Ubuntu.

In full disclosure, I've never owned an Apple product in my life.

Hi Michael - I have two links for you to consider. I don't know if that $1k PC includes a monitor or not, but the Mac Minis and iMacs are suitable option that are in the general ballpark.

Mac Mini

iMac

Of course I got a monitor, what kind of operation do you think I'm running here. lol ;-) Just kidding.

Yeah, it came with a monitor. My wife uses it for her laptop as I had recently purcased a nice one on the cheap. (Okay, so almost everything I buy is on the cheap.)

Thanks, I'll check out the links you sent, though I noticed you didn't provide any comment on why the Mac is dollar for dollar a superior machine. I have no doubt Apple makes a great product--I don't even dispute that it's better than a PC for certain applications. It just is a niche computer--and by niche I don't mean trendy, I mean specific market like BSD.

Michael - I do not mean to dissuade you from your computer preference,.

I presume we use them for different reasons, which only means that for me, a Mac has a better value. For you, it may not. It's just food for thought.

In general, though, in my experience, a Mac is more reliable (crashes less), faster (booting and processing speeds, even on a "slower" by GHz machine), easier to use (for what I use it for), and more flexible (I can run both Windows and Mac OS X on my Mac, but I can't run Mac OS X on a PC).

Besides the ads, what's not to love?

However, I can and have recommended PCs for people with limited budgets and only want access to the Internet, although Mac Mini is a good alternative as a starter drug... er... I mean computer. :)

You guys do a wonderful job! Keep up the good work!!!l

This site is really superb!!! Thank you for you work! Good Luck
